My Lenses

I think the list incorporate all lenses I have owned since my first SLR in 1980 and I've tried to include also other lenses which I have had access to a longer time (like through my military service as photographer). They are sorted by registration distance, when this is known.
If you look in my flickr, there are specific sets for many of the lenses, and I have blogged about some of them or written about them on Pentax Forums. The rating I've applied has the following definition:

5* = great, exceptional, outstanding, best in its category
4* = excellent
3* = very good
2* = good
1* = OK, but not particularly notable
0* = bad, poor, critical shortcomings and flaws

The rating is relative to the technological standard of each period. For example, I don't blame a manual focus lens from the 70's for the slow autofocus. Neither do I conside the price. The price of a lense has nothing to do with the quality of the lens! Once you know the price, properties and quality, you can make a judgement if this is a lens you want to buy. I don't understand rating systems where the price itself is part of the rating.
Overall my system is similar to that of J.L. Colwell (www.jcolwell.ca), but with different symbols and we don't always agree ;).
Clearly my system is very different from the user ratings at Pentax Forum (and many other sites with user ratings), where there is a clear inflation with too many high ratings on mediocre lenses. Probably this is due to people with a limited experiences rating their best lenses as a 9 on a 10 scale, even if it is some mediocre kit-lenses worth a 6 or 7 on a 1-10 scale.

Sometimes I adapt lenses to camera bodies that they were not built for. To note the options I use the following coding have been added to the list (host-body, surgical change or not, apperture controle or not, optical lens elements in adapter or not):

#1000 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with non-optical adapter without apperture controle (for example original m42-K adapter)
#1001 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with non-optical adapter with apperture controle
#1010 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with optical adapter without apperture controle
#1011 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with optical adapter with apperture controle
#1100 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with surgical adaption without apperture controle
#1101 = adapt to Pentax SLR/DSLR with surgical adaption with apperture controle

  3. Using your [5*] ratings to add you my collection. And I don't even know you! Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the positive feedback. I hope you all understand that those lenses that lack a rating are lenses where I have not made up my mind up. For example all dkl, asahiflex and topcor lenses were aquired relatively recently, and I haven't shot enough with them yet, nor done the formal tests (brickwalls and such) yet. Hopefully I will have time this comming summer to catch up with that. It is hard in winter when the sun here is not up when I go to work, and it is down again when I return from work...
